Avalon String Quartet Earns Another Excellent Review

On Sunday, April 18, NIU's Avalon String Quartet performed the final concert of their 2009-2010 Chicago Series. This performance featured clarinetist Anthony McGill. Mr. McGill is a Chicago native who now holds the position of Principal Clarinetist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Many readers will be familiar with Mr. McGill's playing, as he is the clarinetist who performed with Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman at President Obama's inauguration ceremony.

The Quartet received an excellent review in Chicago Classical Music online. Among the several glowing comments, reviewer Elliot Mandel stated "The Avalon employed aggressive and sensitive playing equally; the Quartet’s cohesion was quickly evident." Mr. Mandel went on to say "...a tasteful and impassioned performance not soon forgotten."
