Alumni Organ Recital Proves Extremely Successful

David Hiett, Mark Kline, John Linker, Allison Boccia, Rosalie Cassiday, Connie Withhart, and James Brown

NIU School of Music organ professor James Russell Brown organized and presented an Alumni Organ Recital on September 19. Jim was successful in bringing back to campus six stellar organists with graduation dates ranging from 1975 to 2009, and degrees earned ranged fully from bachelor of music to performer’s certificate.

The six alumni were Allison Boccia, Rosalie Cassiday, David Hiett, Mark Kline, John Linker, and Connie Withhart.

The NIU School of Music has been fortunate to have had three outstanding organ professors over the past forty years, beginning with Robert Reeves (retired and living in Florida), Richard Hoskins (retired from NIU but extremely active as a performing organist in the Chicago area), and now James Brown.

The recital featured several works of J.S. Bach, plus the music of Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Jacques Lemmens, and others. The event, which was well-attended, took place in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall which features a Martin Ott organ completed in 1983.
