Avalon Quartet Partners with Art Institute of Chicago and WFMT

Northern Illinois University's Avalon String Quartet has negotiated a partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago and WMFT (Chicago's noted classical music radio station) regarding performance of the entire Beethoven string quartet cycle (consisting of sixteen quartets).

The agreement calls for the Avalon Quartet to perform nine concerts at the Art Institute during the 2011-12 school year and likely into the beginning of fall 2012. Performances will be promoted as an NIU/Art Institute partnership.

The new partnership with WFMT engages the Avalon Quartet in repackaging the nine concerts into six for DeKalb audiences, five of which would be presented during 2011-12 and the sixth in the fall of 2012. These concerts will be on Wednesday evenings at the NIU School of Music and broadcast live on WFMT. The dates should be set this month.

In addition, the WFMT calls for the Beethoven quartets to be performed again in chronological order of composition, which will be broadcast live from the WFMT studios.

And finally, there will be an immersive all-day seminar at WFMT led by the Avalon focusing on the Beethoven cycle, the date of which is yet to be determined.
