NIU School of Music in Partnership with Yo-Yo Ma, Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Paul Bauer, director of the NIU School of Music, has been working for several months with the leaders of numerous noted music organizations in Chicago. Led by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and, in particular, the CSO's recently-appointed creative consultant Yo-Yo Ma, the first of the movements and programs to come to life from the work of these arts leaders is the Citizen Musician movement.

Citizen Musician aims to identify, highlight and celebrate the work of musicians who “use their talent and passion for music to enhance the quality of life in their community and beyond,” as stated on the soon-to-launch Citizen Musician website.

On Sunday, January 23, the front page of the Arts section of the Chicago Tribune displayed an article in which both Dr. Bauer and Mr. Ma were featured. The entire article may be read here.

One upcoming project of the work these leaders are doing will be for the NIU School of Music's renowned expertise in Internet2 delivery to be used to broadcast Yo-Yo Ma to music conventions, where he can speak and interact with attendees and students.
