CVPA Staff Members Earn NIU's Top Awards

Dan Nichols

Renee Page

We are pleased to announce that two staff members of the NIU College of Visual and Performing Arts have received the university's top awards in their categories this year. Our sincerest Congratulations! go out to Dan Nichols and Renee Page.

Dan serves as both an instructor of instrumental methods courses as well as the audio-visual specialist for the NIU School of Music, and is a recipient of the 2011 Presidential Supportive Professional Staff Award. Dan has become a nationally-recognized expert in Internet2 technology, making the NIU School of Music a national leader in the use of such technology and helping other institutions of higher education become adept at accessing Internet2. In addition, Dan has completely upgraded all recording facilities and equipment in the School of Music, and is the head of the staff who provide services for live web streaming of nearly all School of Music concerts as well as posting videos of concerts on the School of Music YouTube channel. Paul Bauer, the Director of the School of Music, noted that "currently, the quality of the School of Music's audio recordings is the envy of many other institutions."

Renee holds the position of Administrative Assistant in the Office of External Programs of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and is a recipient of the 2011 Outstanding Service Award. She works closely with approximately 500 community members and their families each semester in helping them register for classes and lessons through our Community School of the Arts, and she handles registrations for the several summer camps offered in the CVPA. She has developed databases and policies that make the clientele's access easier, and she designs and maintains the External Programs' web site. The Director of the CVPA External Programs Office, Deborah Booth, says "Renee is great at dealing with people, and her computer skills are beyond excellent. Her work has been a major factor in the growth and strength of our office."

Congratulations, Dan and Renee!
