Art Education Faculty Present at International Conferences

Doug Boughton, Director of the NIU School of Art and noted art educator, and Kerry Freedman, Head of the Division of Art+Design Education at NIU, presented papers as part of an invited panel at the 11th International Society for Education through Art (InSEA) European Regional Conference in Limassol, Cyprus on June 27. The panel theme was Curriculum Connections with Visual Culture: Meaningful Interactive and Contextual Learning in Art Education. Kerry also attended the InSEA World council meeting in Limassol as one of three elected world council members representing the North American region.

On June 28-29 Kerry chaired a research meeting at Cambridge University (UK). The meeting, comprised of co-researchers from the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Hungary, Canada, and the United States, finalized the analysis and report of the first stage of an international research project that is examining the character of auto-didactic learning employed by various (out of school) visual culture youth groups in each of these countries.
