Composition Professor's Works Receive Performances

Robert Fleisher, Professor of Composition and Music Theory in the NIU School of Music, has had several of his compositions receive performances recently.

Dans le piano, an electro-acoustic composition premiered at the Electronic Music Midwest festival (Lewis University) in October, was heard during the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) national conference at The Ohio State University on February 16. Dr. Fleisher's participation during the festival was generously supported by the Illinois Arts Council.

The following weekend, Fleisher's Five Songs from Carl Sandburg's "Prairie" were performed by soprano Belinda Andrews-Smith and pianist Sarah Ramsey during the 5th Tutti festival at Denison University (Granville, OH). Another archival tape piece featuring multi-speed found percussion, Altro Alfresco (premiered at the 2011 Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States festival in Miami), most recently appeared as part of the Audiograft festival online "Jukebox," curated by the Sonic Art Research Unit (SARU) at Oxford Brookes University (UK).
