Printmakers Present at International Conference

Printmaking faculty and students from the NIU School of Art recently presented some of their work at the noted conference, the Southern Graphics Council International Conference, which was held in Milwaukee March 20 - 23.

NIU printmakers worked collaboratively with faculty and students from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville and Ohio University. Each school produced several buildings and structures that are notable to their campus/city/environs, and placed them in an installation with "rivers" separating the locales. Drawbridges were constructed to link each locale with the others.

In addition to the construction of the structures, window scenes on the buildings were created via various printmaking methods, making for several interesting (and sometimes funny!) scenarios.

The NIU Printmaking Studios, ranked in the top 20 in the nation, are led by faculty members Michael Barnes and Ashley Nason.

In addition to the exhibition at this conference, the work will be present at DeKalb's Egyptian Theater on April 6. As more details become available, we'll post them here.
