Concert Choir Returns From Lincoln Center Performance

NIU's Concert Choir, under the direction of Professor Eric Johnson, has just returned from an exciting and valuable trip, the highlight of which was performing for a nearly sold-out audience at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. The Concert Choir joined choirs from Oregon, California and Illinois, including the choir from McHenry High School which is under the direction of NIU School of Music alum Derek Galvicius.

The performance was entitled Calling All Dawns, as the second half of the program was the New York premiere of a work by that name by Grammy Award-winning composer Christopher Tin.

The concert opened with a series of selections performed by the noted women's a cappella group Anonymous 4. Following their appearance, the joint choirs took the stage under the direction of Dr. Johnson, who conducted Mozart's Regina Coeli and Haydn's Te Deum for the Empress Marie Therese. The final piece on the first half was David Rutter's Gloria, conducted by Geoffrey Paul Boers.

The Distinguished Concerts International Orchestra accompanied the joint choirs.
