Art History Professor Receives Major Grant


Mary Quinlan, professor of Art History in the NIU School ofArt, has received notice that she has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in excess of $50,000.00 to pursue her research entitled “Returning Albert's De pictura to its original intellectual context.”

Dr. Quinlan’s research will result in a book which is part of a trilogy that re-examines Renaissance art and the role of the artist, undertaken by the author. Dr. Quinlan’s most recent book is earning wonderful reviews world-wide. Published by the University of Chicago Press, that book is titled Influences: Art, Optics, and Astrology in the Italian Renaissance.
