Composition Professor's Work Included in International Broadcast Series

Dr. Robert Fleisher, coordinator of composition and music theory in the NIU School of Music, is one of 25 international composers whose work was recently selected for an internet broadcast series in Argentina entitled “Air/Ear.” His electro-acoustic composition, Altro Alfresco, was heard on July 19. Premiered at the 2011 SEAMUS (Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States) festival in Miami, Altro Alfresco was most recently heard as part of the Audiograft festival online "Jukebox," curated by the Sonic Art Research Unit (SARE) at Oxford Brookes University (UK). The sound sources in Altro Alfresco are similar to those heard in its shorter “sibling” works, Loretto Alfresco, premiered during the 2009 New York City Electro-Acoustic Music Festival, and Loretto Alfresco (piccolo), premiered during the 2010 International Computer Music Conference: multi-speed “found” percussion -- consisting of pots, pans, pipes and other objects. Altro Alfresco features two additional “obbligato” wind parts: in the upper register, the sound of a distant recorder; in the lower register, the more robust (and proximate) sounds of Mother Nature.
