Faculty Composer's Works Featured

Works by NIU School of Music composition faculty member Robert Fleisher were recently heard in the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, and the Midwest. His solo piano composition, Gig Harbor, was performed by Carl Rosser on March 8 during a conference of the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI), at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. Gig Harbor was one of 42 works selected from more than 250 submitted by 132 composers representing 37 states and Canada. Dr. Fleisher’s electro-acoustic composition, Dans le piano, was heard on March 21 during a conference of the College Music Society (CMS), at Metropolitan State University in Denver, CO. Most recently, his Variations and Soliloquies for violin, cello, and piano received its first performances on April 14 (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), April 15 (NIU), and April 16 (Columbia College Chicago), by the Amicizia Trio. Two other compositions by Dr. Fleisher were recently selected for upcoming performances in June by the New Music Conflagration (St. Petersburg, FL), and in October during the CMS national conference (St. Louis, MO).
