Art History Professor Busy Presenting Lectures


Professor Sinclair Bell of the NIU School of Art and Design has given a number of invited lectures this summer to different social and cultural institutions in Chicago. On June 9, he spoke about “From Ben Hur to Nascar: Chariot Racing in Ancient Rome” as part of the adult education series at The Clare, a high-rise senior living community. On June 12, he lectured on “An Empire for Our Time: Cinematic Appropriations of Ancient Rome” to the Italian Cultural Institute. In June he also spoke on “Fashion, Beauty and Female Adornment” to the Woman’s Athletic Club. He will be giving another invited lecture, entitled “12 Years a (Roman) Slave: Life after Slavery in the Roman Empire,” on September 24 at the University Club in Chicago.
